Sjöström, who won his first medal in this competition as a gold medal, won his 23rd medal (13 gold, 7 silver, 3 bronze) at the long course (50m) World Championships.
The only two women to have won six consecutive titles in a single event at the World Championships are Katie Ledecky (USA) and Sjöström in the women's 800m freestyle.
If Sjöström wins the 50m butterfly title at the World Championships to be held in Singapore next year and wins his seventh consecutive gold medal, he will rise to first place in this category.
Sarah Sjöström, who is also the gold medalist in the women's 50m freestyle at the 2022 Budapest and 2023 Fukuoka Games, will aim for her second gold medal of the event in the final of this event to be held on the 19th.

The International Swimming Federation's website quoted Benjamin Franklin's famous quote, "Nothing is certain in this world except death and taxes," and described, "If there are three things in life that are certain, they are death, taxes, and Sjöström's victory in the 50m butterfly."
“I don’t know why everyone is saying it looks easy (for me to win),” Sjöström said after the match.
“It’s not easy to win a match that everyone is expecting.
“It might be easy to win once or twice, but I’m proud of myself for winning even under increased pressure,” he said.
A new world champion was born in the men's 50m freestyle.
Vladislav Bukov (21, Ukraine) won the final of this event with a time of 21.44 seconds.
